Focus area of the course and core courses
The course objectives focus on enabling students to gain a good understanding of the principles of interior design and skill in planning interior spaces, ergonomic principles as well as executing and managing projects. Spanning over six semesters, the first three comprise of a unique blend of subjects taken from different areas of Home Science curriculum. Resource Management and Art, Design & Aesthetics are the foundation courses offered from this department. Students admitted to ‘Interior Space Design’ study the following subjects in theory and / practicals during semesters IV to VI:

Admission procedure: Students are admitted to the specialization in the second year of Home Science course. Admission is based on merit and overall performance in the previous semesters, entrance test and interview.
Fees:Rs. 29,000 approx for 3 years
Internships: 6 weeks of internship in a firm of architects / interior designer / landscape designer/ furniture manufacturer is an essential component for award of degree.
Career Opportunities and Alumni placements:
The broad base of Home Science curriculum and the specialization subjects offers career progressions in teaching, industry, community and research. After pursuing B.Sc in Home Science with specialization in Interior Space Design, students have opportunities to pursue M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D. Programs. Post Graduate Diplomas in Interior Design, Landscape Design, Hospitality Management, Fuel Technology, and Event Management are other options.
The alumni of this department are engaged in private practice as interior designers / work in interior design firms /teach in schools and colleges of interior design, landscape design and computer aided design or undertake projects in landscaping. Others have entered avenues such as banking, retail management, education, law, social work, multimedia and graphic design.
